A chilled out humanist outdoor wedding on the North Coast
Paula and Andrew knew exactly what they wanted for their wedding and having gone from being childhood sweethearts meeting at band camp to attending the same school and growing up together, they chose to have their wedding in the most personal and fitting locations to their story…….. in a tipi in the grounds of Dominican college Portstewart ( their secondary school)!
if you ever needed convincing to go with your gut, throw tradition out the window and do your wedding just the way you want this one will do that! They kindly wrote about their wedding experience which you can read about below!

how would you sum up your wedding in a couple of sentences - how would you describe the look and feel of the day and the vibe?
Our wedding was so much fun and we laughed from the beginning to the end. It was laid back, relaxed, emotional, but mostly brilliant craic. It was exactly what we wanted and imagined it to be, being surrounded by the people that we love and in a setting that has always meant so much to us both. We love everything rustic, from food to surroundings and we feel that we captured it with the style and theme of our wedding.
Favourite or stand out moment from your wedding day
It is hard to pick a stand out moment from the day. We both loved every point of the day (even the rain during the ceremony). If we were to do it again we would not do anything differently. It was exactly how we wanted the day to go, fun, relaxed, chilled, party vibe. We wanted everyone to feel comfortable and at ease all day.
What was important to you about your wedding - what were your priorities from the very beginning?
Our priorities were to keep the day as relaxed and as fun as possible. We wanted the ceremony to reflect our personalities and how we felt about each other, and then to celebrate on the grounds of our school where we made so many friends and had many happy memories. Luckily everybody that came to celebrate with us made it so special with the amazing family and friends that we have.
What made your venue “the one”?
The grounds of our school where we had so many happy memories together, where we made friends that were able to celebrate with us, and is also a stunning location with amazing views, perfect for photographs! We spent a lot of time here growing up so having pictures not only outside but inside the school was very important to us. We said from day one that we would like to have our wedding there so the fact that it was able to happen was a dream for us.
What made the day really special and personal to you? (Things you included, unusual elements, things that people made or did for you, etc.)
The humanist celebrant Laura was amazing. She made the ceremony so personal and was great at helping us to create something so special to us. We both love Irish traditional music and incorporating that into our day was important. Having the Tipi as our reception was also so special to us, we loved the rustic element of them and had never been to a wedding in one before and neither had any of our guests. We feel that the tipi really helped to capture the relaxed and rustic theme that we wanted our wedding to be. Andrews grandpa doing a reading was so special and also Paulas' cousin Thomas doing a reading in his school uniform was brilliant.
What advice would you give to other couples planning their day?
Do it your own way and don't let other people tell you how to do it! A lot of people told us if they could do it over again they would have something like what we did, so if there is anything you want to do differently then go for it! We would not change one thing about our day because we did everything exactly the way we wanted.
